Advancing the Materials Genome
نویسنده
چکیده
The term, Materials Genome (a registered trademark of MaterialsGenome, Inc., Pennsylvania, USA) was coined by the present author in 2002 and recently used with consent in the “Materials Genome Initiative” by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In this paper, the author’s perspectives on Materials Genome, i.e. the building blocks of materials, will be illustrated with several related projects in the past. How Materials Genome helped us understand materials phenomena and materials design are demonstrated with examples such as cementite dissolution, carbide multi-phase miscibility gap, magnetic properties, INVAR phenomena, and negative thermal expansion. The concept of structural configurational entropy and its importance in affecting properties of individual phases are presented.

Advancing Chimeric Antigen Receptor-Engineered T-Cell Immunotherapy Using Genome Editing Technologies: Challenges and Future Prospects
Chimeric antigen receptor engineered-T (CAR-T) cells also named as living drugs, have been recently known as a breakthrough technology and were applied as an adoptive immunotherapy against different types of cancer. They also attracted widespread interest because of the success of B-cell malignancy therapy achieved by anti-CD19 CAR-T cells. Current genetic toolbox enabled the synthesis of CARs ...
متن کاملBimetal friction stir welding of aluminum to magnesium
FSW material flow and phase transformation were studied at the interface of dissimilar welding of Al 6013 to Mg. Defect free butt weld was obtained when aluminum and magnesium test plates were placed in the advancing side and retreating side respectively, and the tool was placed 1 mm off the weld centerline into the aluminum side. In order to understand how the materials flow during FSW, steel ...
متن کاملAdvancing Materials Science Semantic Metadata via HIVE
Metadata challenges in the materials science community have surfaced due to national and international data sharing policies and the Material Genome Initiative (NSTC, 2014). Among the more pressing challenges is the need to develop semantic ontologies, given their capacity to support information retrieval and discovery, interoperability, and linking of related resources. Researchers engaged in ...
متن کاملOld can be new again: HAPPY whole genome sequencing, mapping and assembly
During the last three decades, both genome mapping and sequencing methods have advanced significantly to provide a foundation for scientists to understand genome structures and functions in many species. Generally speaking, genome mapping relies on genome sequencing to provide basic materials, such as DNA probes and markers for their localizations, thus constructing the maps. On the other hand,...
متن کاملI-40: Male Genome Programming, Infertility and Cancer
Background: During male germ cells differentiation, genomewide re-organizations and highly specific programming of the male genome occur. These changes not only include the large-scale meiotic shuffling of genes, taking place in spermatocytes, but also a complete “re-packaging” of the male genome in post meiotic cells, leading to a highly compacted nucleo-protamine structure in the mature sperm...
